We see them in the spotlight and think we know them, musicians, athletes, actors and V.I.Ps. But what if the fortune and fame would have never showed up? What if there were too many doubts or they had no luck at all. This possibility shows Pascal Kerouche with his photo fiction “Almost Not Famous”.

German rap artist Samy Deluxe as a psychologist, Nico Suave as a mailman or German rock band guitarist Kris as a pro tennis player … in the series of pictures you see the stars in utopistic moments from a whole different side. The stories behind those photos are so different as the journeys through life of each individual.

Some, the fame saved them from the downfall, like rap artist Afrob, that present himself inside a jail cell, because he thinks without the music he would have been stuck in jail for a long time. Famous German TV chef Tim Mälzer sees himself as a drummer in a popular rock band. During the shoot he told photographer Pascal Kerouche his story why he had to get rid of his dream and rather revolutionize the German food culture instead.

The growing series of pictures is a work in progress. After a success of the first presentation during a solo exhibition in Hamburg, Germany Pascal is traveling over the big ocean to continue the idea in the U.S. to simply ask and find an answer to the easy question: What if?

Pascal Kerouche is no stranger to the U.S. market. Until 2009 he was living in New York City and is known to travel back and forth between New York, Los Angeles and Germany. He is known for his work with artist such as Snoop Dogg, Rita Ora, R. Kelly, Problem, E-40, Lil Debbie and others.

Wir sehen sie im Rampenlicht und glauben, sie zu kennen: Musiker, Sportler, Schauspieler, V.I.Ps. Aber was wäre gewesen, wenn der Ruhm ausgeblieben wäre? Wenn der Zweifel gesiegt oder das Glück sie verlassen hätte? Diese Möglichkeit zeigt Pascal Kerouche mit seiner Foto-Fiktion „Almost Not Famous“.

Samy Deluxe als Psychologe, Nico Suave als Postbote, Revolverheld-Gitarist Kris als Tennisprofi … In der Bilderserie zeigen sich Stars für einen uchronischen Moment von einer ganz ungewohnten Seite. Die Geschichten dahinter sind so verschieden wie die Lebenswege der Portraitierten.

Manchen hat der Ruhm vor dem Absturz gerettet, wie etwa den Rapper Afrob, der sich in einem Zellentrakt präsentiert, weil er glaubt, dass er ohne die Musik im Knast gelandet wäre. Tim Mälzer dagegen hatte hochfliegende Pläne. Wie es kam, dass er nicht als Musiker mit dem Panik-Orchester auftritt, sondern am Herd Deutschlands Kochkultur umkrempelt, davon erzählte er dem Fotografen beim Shooting zu seinem Traumportrait am Schlagzeug.

Die Fotoserie ist eine wachsende work in progress. Pascal Kerouche wird die Reihe auch ausserhalb Deutschlands weiterführen und zeigte im Rahmen des Reeperbahn- Festivals den ersten, in Hamburg, Köln und Berlin fotografierten Teil seiner Arbeit in einer Einzelaustellung.

Die meisten der hier Portraitierten sind Musiker, denn die Leidenschaft für Musik zieht sich durch Kerouches Biografie als Werbefotograf in Deutschland und den USA, als Grafiker für CD-Cover und als langjähriger Hausfotograf von Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion.
